Organizational
Development Services Organizational
Development Services involve direct consultation with management
regarding issues which are impacting or have the potential to impact
a large segment of the employee population. Organizational Development
(OD) has evolved into a separate and distinct professional expertise,
however EAP’s are in an ideal position to perform basic OD
services or to work in collaboration with identified OD professionals.
For example, EAP Counselors may work proactively with management
to prepare the workforce for planned changes, such as a reduction
in force, implementation of strategic planning issues, or a change
to the organization’s structure.
More commonly, EAP’s, through their continuous involvement
with the employee and management community, are able to identify
trends in the workplace. When appropriate and when confidentiality
will not be compromised, the EAP is able to approach management
with recommendations for interventions. These may include change
management strategies, conflict resolution, retreat facilitation,
work climate assessments, and communication enhancement.
A final component of OD work involves consultation with specific
organizations within the workplace. Although all NASA centers have
comprehensive human resource support, the EAP can collaborate to
assist with policy development around specific issues such as drug
free workplace policy, workplace violence, sexual harassment and
threat assessments.
